چکیده
The benzotrialzol organic UV filters, such as UV-320 (CAS# 384671-7), UV-326 (CAS# 3896-11-5), UV-327 (CAS# 3864-99-1), and UV-328 (CAS# 25973-55-1), were detected in marine organisms collected from the Ariake Sea, western Japan. The high concentrations of UV filters were found in oysters and tidal flat species, at the concentrations of several ten ng/g (wet wt. basis). It is interesting to know that marine mammals and seabirds accumulate UV-326, 328 and UV-327, respectively. These results suggest the significant bioaccumulation of UV filters through the marine food-webs. Benzotriazole UV filters were also detected in surface sediments from the Ariake Sea, at the average concentrations of several ng/g (dry wt.). Significant correlations were found between UV filters concentrations and organic carbon contents in sediments, which implies an adsorption of these contaminants to organic carbon. In order to understand the geographical distribution of UV filters, blue and green mussels from 10 Asian countries and region were analyzed. UV filters were detected in most mussel samples, indicating the widespread use of these compounds in Asian coastal regions. The high concentrations of UV filters were found in mussels from Korea, Hong Kong, and Japan. Further investigations and global monitoring survey for organic UV filters are necessary to understand their contamination, fate and risks in the ecosystems.

The Effects of Sunscreen on Cyanobacteria
Ultraviolet-filters found in various manufactured cosmetic products have been detected recently as environmental contaminants at trace concentrations. The effects of these low levels of sunscreen products on cyanobacteria were investigated in this study. Average trends of triplicate conditions in this study suggest that sunscreen causes decreased scytonemin and chlorophyll a production, as well...
متن کاملA modified method for the determination of organic mercury in biota [great cormorants (phalacrocorax carbo)] by advanced mercury analyzer
Background: Contagion of aquatic ecosystems to heavy metals especially mercury (Hg) has risen concerns about healthiness of marine organisms. Organic mercury compounds are highly toxic for animals, and its detection in various samples is frequently needed. In present study we have described a new method for measurement of organic mercury and total mercury concentration in great cormorants (ph...
متن کاملEstrogenic activity of UV filter mixtures.
UV-absorbing chemicals (UV filters) are widely used for protection against UV radiation in sunscreens and in a variety of cosmetic products and materials. Depending on the breadth and factor of UV protection, they are added as single compounds or as a combination thereof. Some UV filters have estrogenic activity, but their activity and interactions in mixtures are largely unknown. In this work,...

Ultraviolet (UV)-absorbing chemicals (UV filters) are used in personal care products for the protection of human skin and hair from damage by UV radiation. Although these substances are released into the environment in the production and consumption processes, little is known about their ecotoxicology effects. The acute toxicity and potential ecological risk of UV filters benzophenone-3 (BP-3) ...

The recognition that ultraviolet radiation has harmful effects on the skin has led to the commercial development of inorganic and synthetic organic UV filters that can reduce the negative effects of exposure to sunlight. In addition, moisturizing chemicals are extensively used in personal care products to improve the ability of skin to retain water. Whilst current UV filter and moisturizing che...
